Technical Questions
Please read our specification for PC system requirements for servers and client installations, as well as specific software compatibilities. |
Yes. There are 3 ways to use EQ when you are away from the office. (Note that if you login to a terminal server for EQ you may be able to access this in the same way from any location with an Internet connection. Consult your IT company for more information.)
1. Multicompany Advantages: •No Internet connection required. •Can be used on a laptop as a standalone system, e.g. when on site.
Disadvantages: •You need to manually move quotes/orders from one company to another when you return to the office. •You need to keep a second database up-to-date with current catalogues in addition to your main data.
Think of EQ as being in 2 halves; one is the program which is installed on each machine and one is the data which is usually shared between all machines. If you use shared data then this will not be available if you take a laptop out of the office. EQ can make a "multi-company" which puts a small set of data on the laptop so EQ can be used when disconnected. See the Multicompany topic.
An example using a multicompany on a laptop: A sales person out of the office can create a customer and input a new quote. On return to the office plug the laptop into the network. Export the quotation from the laptop to a file on the network. Open EQ on the network and import the quotation. The new quote is incorporated into the data and shared with all PCs.
2. Remote Desktop Server Advantages: •Flexible access to EQ from anywhere with an Internet connection •Affordable power without the capital investment in the server •Access EQ on multiple devices including PCs, tablets, Apple Macs etc
Disadvantages: •An Internet connection is required to access your EQ system
EQ offer two server options for hosted server and hosted application in a Tier 3 datacentre for reliability and uptime. Contact sales for more information.
3. Remote Desktop Login to your own PC Advantages: •No manual exporting of orders needed. •You do not have to keep a second company database up-to-date. Disadvantages: •Requires an Internet location at the office and your current location. •Requires EQ to be installed at the office on a PC that is switched on.
This option is sometimes more suitable if you want to log in to an office PC when you are not there as long as a PC has been left switched on. There are several ways to use a remote desktop connection, and all involve using a third party piece of software which is not related to EQ at all. During a remote desktop connection you are able to control a remote PC and use all its programs as if you were sitting in front of it. Some versions of Windows have remote desktop capabilities (Microsoft article online), otherwise you can use a product such as Log Me In or Go To My PC. (EQ is not responsible for external websites or any other software you may install on your PC). |

It is vital that you keep regular backups of all data in EQ in case of database damage or PC damage or failure. EQ is not responsible for your data or creating backups Please see detailed information on backups. |
There are 2 things to consider when moving computers.
1. Will you be moving EQ and the database? (You may have your database on 1 PC but multiple copies of EQ on other PCs). If you are moving the database too, follow this step-by-step guide.
2. Are you just moving the EQ licence? If your data is not moving all you need to do is contact EQ support and ask to move EQ between computers. Your old PC licence will be deactivated allowing installation on a replacement computer. |
The setup for EQ on the desktop means that the software is installed on your client PCs and the data is located on one of those PCs, or a dedicatead file server, and shared over your local network. The security of the software, when it is running on your computers and network, is as secure as the rest of your infrastructure when it comes to outside influences. For example we always recommend good practices such as running security software to cover anti-virus and malware threats, as well as a firewall.
In terms of internal precautions EQ has a built-in backup notification which runs on a timer, so will prompt your administrator user to backup EQ's databases regularly (the timer, in days, is user controlled). EQ also automatically performs a backup before each software upgrade. We would also recommend that the EQ data is backed up as part of your existing backup plan. |
Some clients have asked the question; “Is your software GDPR compliant”. It is important to understand that it is not possible for any software to be GDPR compliant in and of itself. GDPR compliance relates to the company which uses the software and processes the data within it. We take great care to make it possible for you to use the software in a secure way. |
Using the System
•Check an individual product price by right-clicking on its product code (in a quote/order) and click Pricing Information to show the base price (starting price in the catalogue), cost price (with your discount applied) and selling price (with your margin or markup applied).
•Ensure you load the quarterly update CDs with catalogue price lists. •If your EQ system has access to the Internet you will have registered for catalogue update emails on installation. You will be emailed with a list of new/updated catalogues as they become available so you can download from the FTP server. (If you are not receiving catalogue update emails check your anti-spam e-mail settings or contact catalogue support). •You can periodically check for updates from our server at any time. •Check the catalogue date you have loaded. Click Suppliers > Catalogues to see a list of catalogues by supplier. The date is the catalogue issue date. |
You will require Internet access on your PC with EQ and you will need a support key which you may have input during installation. Please follow these step-by-step instructions. |
You can add your own products into My Catalogue or you can use free code items that can be created at the time of quoting; just right-click on the add product button to insert a new blank row onto the quote. |
If you remove old furniture catalogues you will be unable to open old orders that were produced with the old catalogue. Instead, you should read how to disable old catalogues so that it will not be available for new quotes but is still installed so you can open old orders. |
Yes as long as it has been deleted recently, see how here. |

If you have a delivery charge or similar you can create the product in My Catalogue so it can be added to a quote/order like a normal product. If it is a one-off product you can add it quickly to a quote as a free code product. |
Documents
You can either show the company logo on EQ paperwork or use a blank logo to generate enough space to print on your existing letterhead. Please follow these step-by-step instructions. |
•The main layout of printed documents are set under Tools > Customise > Documents then pick the document. •If you use customer types you can set them for each type under the customer screen. •You can change the quotation layout on 3 levels, read more here. |
